In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Yellow Springs; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Ohio are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Cute little vegan restaurant with Israel and Taiwan food. It has a huge menu with both street food and main courses. We tried the BBQ special, which included mustard BBQ tofu, peanut potato salad, and cornbread. We also ordered the chatt and a steamed bun, along with a mango lassi. Everything was delicious! The service was great as well ๐

Delicious, had the shawarma and the gua bao! The entrance is toward the back of the building, so look for the sign hanging on the building if you're on Xenia Street.

I have been told that a review of MAZU is effectively a journey through the cultural heritage of its owners, Angie Hsu and Matan Mazursky. Tucked away in Keithโs Alley in Yellow Springs, this 100% vegan "menu without borders" has become a cornerstone of the Dayton area dining scene since opening in early 2023. โThe space is warm and modern, featuring an open kitchen and handmade ceramic plating crafted by co-owner Angie Hsu. It doubles as a community hub, hosting social justice initiatives and a volunteer led soup kitchen, Whoโs Hungry, on its off days. โOur Order: The Standouts โThe menu leans into the natural versatility of whole ingredients rather than processed meat substitutes. Our experiences over two visits, first in August and a return trip just a few weeks later, confirmed that the kitchenโs strength lies in its bold textures and authentic spices. โThe Yansu Mushrooms (The Showstopper): These are, without question, the highlight of the menu. They consist of deep fried local oyster mushrooms sprinkled with toasted spices and fried basil. They provide a satisfying crunch and savory depth that was so compelling we returned specifically for another round. โThe Sabich: This Ir

Friggin amazing cuisine. I mean, they did the unthinkable: scallion pancake burrito (wrap). Itโs genius. The mushrooms are so simple yet so delicious. The bao is wow. We just love this place. 2nd time eating here and it exceeded our expectations again.
